Love the convenience of living near a major city? Owings Mills is a close-in suburb to Baltimore and just a short drive to the numerous restaurants, museums, and attractions in downtown Baltimore, Johns Hopkins University, and the Baltimore-Washington International Airport. The town, now a quiet suburban community, was first settled in the early 1700s. One particularly prominent member of the early community, Samuel Owings, built 3 productive mills along Gwynn’s Falls, hence the town’s name: Owings Mills. Samuel was a rather busy man in his day: In addition to extensive landholdings (as much as 1,775 acres) in Baltimore County, he also served as deputy sheriff, a justice of the peace, county commissioner, and a county delegate to the legislature. Even if your life is not as busy as Samuel’s, you’ll certainly enjoy living in the quiet enclave that bears his name.
