Scroll down to see our SE Washington DC apartment communities. The once overlooked neighborhood of Anacostia is quickly revitalizing, with young professionals and families moving in to take advantage of its proximity to downtown DC, beautiful parks and green space, and relative affordability – which is the reason Anacostia was originally developed. Though its history goes back very far – Captain John Smith explored the area in 1608 – Anacostia was first incorporated in 1854 as Uniontown. During the Civil War, Anacostia was protected by a series of forts, and after the war, abolitionist Frederick Douglass lived at historic Cedar Hill (from 1877 until his death in 1895). Today, residents enjoy easy access to numerous recreational activities at Anacostia Park, Fort Stanton Park, and Fort Dupont Park, not to mention the vibrant dining, nightlife, and cultural scene of DC, just a short trip away by Metro or car. For a unique blend of affordability and history, you can’t beat Anacostia.
