Affordable Residences to the High-Cost Metro Corridor --

GREENBELT, Md. - February 10, 2015 – Bozzuto Construction Company today announced that it has been selected by the Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing (APAH) as general contractor for The Springs, a mixed-use, mixed-income apartment community in Arlington, Virginia.  Construction on the $42 million dollar, five-story project will begin in early 2015 and is scheduled for completion in the Summer of 2016.

Located on N. Thomas Street and N. Carlin Springs Road in the Ballston neighborhood of Arlington, The Springs will be home to APAH’s new headquarters as well as 104 apartments ranging in size from studio to three-bedroom.  More than 80% of the homes will be family-size, offering either two or three bedrooms, and 98 of the residences will be designated as affordable for low-income individuals and families.

The Springs will also include a community room, business center, fitness studio, underground parking, and bicycle storage. Residents will have easy access to the Ballston Metro, various bus routes, and the Ballston Common Mall.  In addition, the community will be EarthCraft Platinum certified and a 100 year-old on-site willow oak tree will be preserved.

“We are honored that APAH selected us for a project of such significance to Arlington," said Mike Schlegel, president, Bozzuto Construction Company. "Affordable housing is a crucial need for this area and we are thrilled to bring the workmanship, quality and value that we have become known for to such an important project.”

“APAH is deeply appreciative of the visionary and creative Arlington County leadership, which made these new, quality, affordable homes possible by rezoning our site for more density and providing a $7.8million loan from their Affordable Housing Investment Fund. Many thanks to our supportive funders, VHDA and Bank of America and to our capable development team including Bozzuto Construction Company, KGD Architecture and Walter L. Philips,” said APAH President/CEO Nina Janopaul.
