Washington Business Journal: Macedonian Affordable Housing Project Breaks Ground in Arlington
July 10, 2009
Macedonia Baptist Church, the Bonder & Amanda Johnson Community Development Corporation and AHC Inc. broke ground yesterday on The Macedonian, a 36-unit affordable housing project in Arlington.
Located on Shirlington Road, the project is completely affordable. It will include 32 apartments for those making 60 percent or less of the area median income and four units for the Arlington County Supportive Housing Program for persons with disabilities making 40 percent or less of the area median income.
The $13 million project will be financed through tax exempt bonds from the Virginia Housing Development Authority, a soft loan from Arlington County’s Affordable Housing Investment Fund, and a grant from Arlington County's Supportive Housing Program.
The project will also deliver 2,300 square feet of office space for a start-up business incubator and the Bonder and Amanda Johnson Community Development Corporation.
Other partners on the project include Arlington County, Bonstra/Haresign Architects, Bozzuto Construction and the VHDA.
