of Whole Foods Market Flagship Store & Luxury Multi-Family Residences-
BALTIMORE, MD – September 13, 2016 – Harbor East will soon have an exciting, 22-story mixed-use development called Liberty Harbor East, a name deeply rooted in Baltimore history. The approximately $170 million project located at 711 S. Central Avenue is being developed by majority owner Harbor East Management Group with Bozzuto serving as the co-developer, general contractor and provider of management services for the residences. The award-winning firm Hickok Cole Architects has been named as the project’s architects and will be joined by Stonehill & Taylor, an interior design firm known for their boutique hotel designs. The landscape architects Mahan Rykiel & Associates will complete the creative and talented design team.
This magnificent development will consist of 282 upscale apartments, 35 extraordinary condominiums, approximately 575 parking spaces and the new Whole Foods Market flagship store that will replace the existing Harbor East location at the corner of Fleet and Exeter Streets that opened in 2002.The new 50,000 square foot Whole Foods Market will occupy the street level of Liberty Harbor East and will be double the size of its current store, with café seating on the second floor overlooking the harbor.A complimentary retailer will occupy approximately 3,500 square feet in close proximity to Whole Foods Market.
The name Liberty Harbor East celebrates both a classic American success story and Baltimore’s harbor where so much of the city’s history was and continues to be made.Liberty is a class of WWII cargo ships that was manufactured at the Bethlehem-Fairfield Shipyard in Baltimore and became iconic with U.S. wartime industrial output. Liberty is also the daughter of Kyriaki and Isadore ‘Steve’ Paterakis, who founded H&S Bakery along with the Tsakalos family after emigrating from Greece to Baltimore in the 1920’s.
“It has been extremely exciting to witness Harbor East’s continued evolution as a neighborhood as well as a regional destination and the Liberty Harbor East project is yet another significant milestone that reflects just how far the area has come,” stated Tim O’Donald, President of Harbor East Management Group.“Liberty Harbor East will be distinctly Baltimore and uniquely Harbor East, providing a modern and vibrant setting for residents seeking both respite and community.”
“The story of the Paterakis and Bozzuto families is a true Baltimore story – one of the American dream, focused on an outstanding work ethic and the creation of community,” said Toby Bozzuto, President & CEO of Bozzuto. “The authentic design of Liberty Harbor East is evocative of the area with a nod to Baltimore’s maritime past. It will be an extraordinary community that we hope will resonate with the soul of Baltimore.”
“I’m thrilled to see our City continue to grow with this signature project,” said Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. “Liberty Harbor East honors our City’s past while exemplifying the vibrancy of our City today with a newly expanded Whole Foods Market and world-class urban residences.”
With a design that pays tribute to the harbor, Liberty Harbor East captures the tranquility and energy of Baltimore’s waterfront. The façade and structure of the building are reminiscent of sailboats under full sail or ocean waves.Upon entering the condominium lobby there is an immediate sense of ease as if walking onto a classic sailboat. The lobby includes nautical inspired elements including wooden ship knobs and a magnificent rope art installation strategically placed behind the concierge desk.In contrast, but still inspired by the harbor, the design of the apartment lobby is similar to a sleek modern yacht with fresh metal tones and a light airy vibe. The ninth floor amenities experience will be extraordinary, flowing seamlessly between interior and exterior spaces. The 30,000 square foot area is a harmonious blend of luxury and ease featuring a boutique hotel-like environment. The amenities floor, while open and full of natural light, will include a library area and study area for residents looking for quiet space. There is also a yoga studio and fitness area with state-of-the-art equipment. The lounge area features a beautiful bar with plush seating and a small private dining area for catered events or meetings. This all leads outside to a dramatic pool and courtyard area that boasts magnificent views of the harbor along with dedicated spaces for grilling and lounging. The amenity floor also includes a dog park and areas for games as well as an outdoor theater.Liberty Harbor East will set the bar for upscale living along Baltimore’s famed harbor.
