BALTIMORE - September 20, 2016 - Bozzuto, a Maryland-based real estate company, will host the 6th annual Boxing Before Books benefit on Thursday, September 22, from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. at Union Wharf on 915 S Wolfe Street, to help benefit the Baltimore-based charity, UMAR Boxing and their motto “No Hooks Before Books.”

For nearly two decades, boxing hall of famer and founder of UMAR Boxing, Marvin McDowell has combined academic development and athletic training to improve the lives of at-risk youth. The Bozzuto community is proud to support his ongoing efforts to lift up some of the city’s most underserved children and youth.

UMAR Boxing is a Baltimore-based nonprofit after-school program, geared towards enriching the lives of underserved youth by providing a positive and safe environment to learn and promote sportsmanship and integrity. The program consists of two hours of daily tutoring, followed by boxing sessions with UMAR trainers. The program is free of charge. Through the collaborative efforts of Marvin McDowell, and Bozzuto’s Dave Schorr and Jeff Kayce, the Boxing For Books fundraiser provides UMAR with roughly 30 percent of the program’s annual budget.

“Education is a fundamental part of any sport. At UMAR Boxing, it is the key to success,” said Marvin McDowell.

“The No Hooks Before Books program is a critical resource for at-risk youth in Baltimore,” says Jeff Kayce, Senior Vice President of Bozzuto Development. “UMAR boxing is focused on social change and helping to improve the lives of kids who don’t have the resources or support many of us take for granted. Marvin combines athleticism and education to build self-confidence and integrity in these kids."

A highlight of the evening will be when UMAR students get the chance to show off the skills they’ve learned in the ring by treating guests to a live sparring match. Guests will also enjoy music, food and drinks. The event has free parking and standard tickets cost $80.00. Additional sponsorship tickets are available for anyone wanting to take on a greater role to benefit this cause. Tickets can be purchased online at: www.boxingforbooks.com.

Media interested in covering the event or learning more should contact Weinberg Harris & Associates to schedule an interview or to attend.
