Out and About in Annapolis.
Parks: Quiet Water Park offers a wide variety of activities like walking, jogging, or biking on over 6 miles of paved trails winding through forests and grassy fields. You can also play at the multi-level children’s playground, enjoy the vistas of the South River promenade and scenic overlook, or picnic among 340 acres of beautiful park land. Sandy Point State Park is a 786-acre Maryland State Park located along the Northwestern shore of the Chesapeake Bay. The park’s beaches and picnic areas are well known for their breathtaking scenic water views of the bay. Annapolis City Waterworks Park is a 45-acre park located on Defense Highway with access available by permit only. The park offers restrooms, benches, picnic pavilions, nature areas, hiking trails and fishing, though it’s catch and release only. Truxton Park features the new Moyer recreation center as well as an outdoor swim center, boat launch, walking trails, tennis courts and a skate park.
Transportation: Baltimore Washington International Airport is just 24 miles from Annapolis, and with MARC Stations near Annapolis, it makes getting around the state of Maryland easy and convenient.
Elementary Schools: Mills Parole Elementary is a traditional elementary school serving approximately 500 students in grades pre-kindergarten through grade 5 with a rich cultural diversity. St. Mary's Elementary School strives to develop lifelong learners, true to their Catholic identities. Eastport Elementary School, Annapolis Elementary School, which is the oldest public school in the state of Maryland, and Rolling Knolls Elementary are a few more of our favorites.
Middle Schools: Wiley H. Bates Middle School offers a rigorous arts-infused curriculum. Also check out Annapolis Middle School and St. Mary's Elementary & Middle School in the Annapolis area.
High Schools: Annapolis High School is noted for its Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs, the Naval Junior ROTC and serves as a magnet school for students learning English as a second language. St. Mary's High School is dedicated to academic excellence and to the preparation of each student for secondary education. Broadneck High School is another great area school.
Colleges/Universities: The U.S. Naval Academy gives young men and women the up-to-date academic and professional training needed to be effective naval and marine officers in their assignments after graduation. Anne Arundel Community College has a full range of degrees, certificates, continuing education, and distance learning. AACC is located in Arnold, Maryland. St.John's College is a liberal arts college with two U.S. campuses: one in Annapolis, Maryland and the other in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Restaurants: Pusser’s Caribbean Grille is the only, true waterfront restaurant in Annapolis. This unique restaurant offers a “taste of the real Caribbean” featuring unique, high quality, moderately priced, and freshly prepared Caribbean cuisine. Rams Head Tavern offers food fun and beer. They make the freshest food possible, preparing each menu item from scratch, daily. Chart House - Annapolis offers spectacular waterfront dining and views, along with delicious seafood and steak. Some of our other favorite restaurants include: Lemongrass Thai, The Chop House, Brio Tuscan Grille, Cadillac Ranch Bar and Grill, Ziki Japanese Steakhouse, and the Gordon Biersch Brewery.
Sports Venues: Enjoy Navy games of lacrosse, baseball, basketball and, of course, football with the U.S. Naval Academy Athletics at the Navy Stadium, or catch a game from the MBA’s Washington Wizards, NHL's Washington Capitals, or the WNBA's Washington Mystics at the Verizon Center.
Shopping: Get your shop on at the Westfield Mall in Annapolis or the Annapolis Towne Centre, or enjoy perusing the fashionable Downtown Annapolis' boutique style shops.
Museums: The Annapolis Maritime Museum connects visitors, residents and especially students, to Annapolis’ unique maritime heritage and the natural wonder of the Chesapeake Bay. The William Paca House & Garden is a National Historic Landmark, restored by Historic Annapolis to its colonial-era splendor. It is open for docent-led tours for individuals and groups and tours take place hourly on the half-hour, encompassing two floors of 18th-century history. If you like, you can also take a self-paced tour of the garden at any time during their open hours.
Entertainment: Catch the latest film at Bow Tie Annapolis Mall Cinemas or Bow Tie Cinemas Harbor 9.
Recreation: Schooner Woodwind Sailing Cruises lets you enjoy 2-hour public sailing cruises with unique longer-destination cruises each month to the Eastern Shore, waterfront crab houses and lighthouse tours. Voted the best health club in Annapolis for the past seven years, Annapolis Athletic Club will keep you looking and feeling fit.
